PORTCOAST working with JICA Research Group of the Cambodia Infrastructure Development Project

On 23.02.2013 at Portcoast Office on 328 Nguyen Trong Tuyen Street, Ward 2, Tan Binh District, Deputy General Director Pham Anh Tuan had a meeting with JICA Research Group of the Infrastructure Development Project of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Welcoming the group with the Deputy General Director were Chief Engineer and the leader of Port and Waterway Design Center (PEC) which is directly under Portcoast.

The JICA Research Group led by Mr. Hirata Hitoshi, Chief Representative of JICA representative office in the Kingdom of Cambodia, as head of the party, Mr. Takashi Shimada, JICA expert on transportation policy at the Ministry of Transport and Public Works of Cambodia; and the members of JICA representative office in Cambodia.

At the meeting, JICA expressed the desire for cooperation between the two parties to propose the development plan for routes connecting cargo from the port of Phnom Penh (Cambodia) to the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port in the province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau of Vietnam to transit goods.

Portcoast also introduced the JICA party of Cambodia to the seaports system in Cai Mep - Thi Vai, the advantages and the ability to receive large vessels of over 100.00DWT of modern ports in Cai Mep – Thi Vai to take on the functions of transit, maritime navigation network and navigable channels connecting Cai Mep – Thi Vai port with Phnom Penh port via the Mekong river system, and the navigable channel routing through the Quan Chanh Bo canal in the future.

Both parties agreed to regularly exchange and collaborate to reach for the aim of becoming consultants for the authorities of Vietnam and Cambodia in the program of connecting the transportation network from Cambodia through the port of Cai Mep – Thi Vai of Vietnam and to use the port as cargo transit to the port of Phnom Penh and other ports in Cambodia.
