FUNCTIONS

 

According to decision of General Director, Riverine and Coastal Engineering Department was commissioned to perform the duty as follows:

(1) Plan and make feasibility study reports, make survey and design draff for traffic projects.
(2) Design and appraise the riverine and coastal projects: breakwater, bank protection, channel, and other coastal structures…
(3) Survey and analyse hydrography figures in coastal and estuary
(4) Hydrography experiment
(5) Study wave and current inshore
(6) Study sediment transport by wave and current

ENGINEERING is continually completing the commission and expand to keep pace with the International Consultants.

RIVERINE & COASTAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT has been 14 staffs includes 03 Masters and 11 engineers of Port - Maritime Structure major.

CATALOGUE OF EQUIPMENTS

 

Riverine and Coastal Engineering Department has been some special modern equipments for surveying hydrography, which have abilities to survey in water area with 50m in depth and set up survey stations system at once with high degree of accuracy to attend to study and design riverine and coastal projects. These equipments were supplied by specialized companies from USA, Australia and China. The following are some images and standard features of foregoing equipments:

SonTek Triton Directional Wave Gauge (USA)

The Triton combines the accurate ADV velocity measurement technology for which SonTek is well known with an integral pressure sensor in a compact, lightweight and affordable directional wave gauge. Windows software created for the Triton uses the proven PUV method.

• Internal compass/Tilt sensor

OBS-5 (USA)

Features:

• Laser system controlled by the microprocessor
• Survey particle concentrations as high as 100g/l
• Conductivity, water temperatures and pressure sensor
• Data transmitted via an RS232 serial data link

Apply:

• Monitor dredging operations
• Survey suspended-sediment
• Determine productivity of dredging machines


AUTOMATIC WEATHER STATION, AWS-2 (AUSTRALIA)

Features:
• Receive data automatically by Data logger box
• Sensors: Wind speed, Wind direction, Humidity, Photoactive radiation, Air temperature and Rain gauge.
• Power supply: Solar panels.
• Data transmitted via an RS232 serial data link, without the need for any special software.

Apply:
• Measure meteorology, operate all year round.


CURRENT VELOCITY & DIRECTION METER, ZSX-3 (CHINA)

Features:
• Faradaic sensor propeller.
• Power supply: 12v batteries.
• Display meter.

Apply:
• Measure current velocity and direction.


CURRENT VELOCITY METER, LS-68 (CHINA)

Features:
• Mechanical propeller.
• Power supply: 12v batteries.
• Signal: sound signal or light signal.

WIND SPEED & DIRECTION METER, EL. (CHINA)

Features:
• Faradaic sensor system.
• Power supply: 12v batteries.
• Display meter integrate with compass.

• Measure wind speed & direction.

EXPERIENCE

 

During the time, Riverine and Coastal Engineering Department studied and surveyed many port structures, sea structures, channels, bank protection, waterway transport … to serve different transports.

Studying

Riverine and Coastal Engineering Department has been studying water level rise analysis subject caused by coastal storm, based on measured datum in many years and completed in 01/2006.
Studying and using professional DHI Software tools made by Danish Hydraulic Institute compose as MIKE-11, MIKE-21, MIKE-3D, LITPACK...

Designing

We have planed feasibility study report and designed riverine and coastal structures:

- Detailed design of Dung Quat Breakwater in 2002.
- Detailed design of River and canal bank protection (20 km length) – Inland waterways and port rehabilitation project in 7/2002.
- Ca Mau – Nam Can waterway improvement sub-project (60,2km length) under South waterways and Can Tho terminal improvement project in 1/2003.
- Planning South Inland Waterways and Port System Detail to 2010 in 9/2003.
- Planning Mekong Delta Big Sea port in 8/2004.
- Planning Feasibility study “Position selection and Preliminary design of marine structures of Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemical Complex Management Board – Thanh Hoa” in 10/2003.
- Planning feasibility study “Container port and cement distribution pounded station with capacity 1milion tons cement/year” in 8/2004.
- Planning investibility report, feasibility study “HFO oil and coal import port project” for Nghi Son thermo-electricity factory in 9/2004.
- Co-operate with SNC – Lavalin Consultant (Canada) study navigation chanel pass Dinh An estuary.
- Study Stage 2nd Dredging of Soai Rap canal. Hydrography survey, design canal and marking buoy system.
- Planning locations for falling dreded mud and Soil at Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province in 9/2006.
- Anchoring area for avoiding storm in Con Dao Territorial Waters in 2006.
- Ca mau - Nam Can Waterway improvement Project in 2006

Surveying

Projects surveyed by Riverine and Coastal Engineering Department are invested by inland, foreign or joint-venture investor… These projects attend to many fields such as building materials, petro, general port, inland waterway transport…

- Hydrography survey at Nghi Son coast, Thanh Hoa province in 2003.
- Hydrography survey at Dinh An estuary, Tra Vinh province in 2004-2005.
- Hydrography survey at Cai Mep – Thi Vai river, Ganh Rai bay, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province in 2004-2005.
