Strong investment to master technology

Recognizing the inevitable trend of integration between Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Portcoast has early defined a distinctive path. Instead of merely applying software, the company has made strong investments to master the entire technology chain — from field data acquisition to producing high-value digital products such as Digital Twins. The foundation of this differentiation lies in a modern and proprietary hardware ecosystem, creating a sustainable competitive advantage.

The company has brought to Vietnam and the region the most advanced equipment in the world. Notable among them is the Trimble Mobile Mapping MX50 system mounted on vehicles, allowing 3D scanning and high-precision data collection for transportation infrastructure. In the maritime field, the unmanned surface vessel (USV) Otter Pro can simultaneously survey underwater and coastal terrain. In addition, the fleet of drones equipped with high-resolution five-lens cameras, LiDAR, and laser scanners such as Stormbee UAV S-20, along with a series of leading terrestrial laser scanners like the Leica ScanStation P50, have positioned Portcoast at the forefront of technology. Owning this complete technology chain enables Portcoast to have full control over data quality, project timelines, and implementation costs.

Alongside its investment in cutting-edge technology, Portcoast identifies people as the key factor in mastering and maximizing the value of these technologies. The company has been focusing on training high-quality human resources both domestically and internationally, especially at the postgraduate level. A clear testament is that Portcoast currently has 10 PhDs and 36 MScs. The company continues to sponsor over 10 engineers pursuing master’s programs in Ho Chi Minh City and 10 PhD candidates at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. To ensure a sustainable successor workforce and promote the university–enterprise cooperation model, Portcoast has signed comprehensive cooperation agreements with four universities: Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, University of Transport and Communications, Thuy Loi University, and Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.

Affirming a pioneering position

This superior technological capability is not just on paper but has been proven through some of the most complex infrastructure projects. A typical example is the creation of a Digital Twin for the entire Cai Mep - Thi Vai port system, a strategic maritime gateway of the nation. The project was a comprehensive showcase where real-world data was integrated to create a dynamic digital model, allowing stakeholders to simulate operational scenarios and make remote decisions. The value of this technology was demonstrated when a wharf incident occurred — the existing Digital Twin model helped Portcoast quickly assess the extent of the damage, shorten recovery time, and minimize economic losses.

From its dominant position in port and maritime consulting, Portcoast has actively expanded its digital expertise into other infrastructure sectors. Its involvement in Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 during the post-construction phase and Metro Line 2 during the design phase (as a consortium member responsible for Scan-to-BIM/BIM consultancy) exemplifies this diversification strategy. Additionally, Portcoast’s participation in numerous international projects in Pakistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Egypt, and Panama further demonstrates its global capability.

Portcoast’s competency is recognized not only by domestic partners but also by prestigious international organizations through a series of awards and certifications. The company has won the Esri Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award for two consecutive years — a highly selective recognition among hundreds of thousands of organizations worldwide. Portcoast is also the first in Vietnam to achieve the BSI Kitemark™ Certification from the British Standards Institution for implementing the international ISO 19650 standard on information management using BIM. This proves that the company’s workflows meet the world’s highest standards. Furthermore, the strong partnerships and recognition from Autodesk (USA) — the leading global BIM software company — validate the deep expertise of Portcoast’s engineering team. Portcoast has also established comprehensive cooperation with both Esri and Autodesk to maximize digital transformation in infrastructure.

By focusing on core technological capabilities and specialization in high-complexity market segments, Portcoast has built a sustainable development model. More than just an engineering consultancy, Portcoast has become a technology pioneer contributing to shaping the future of Vietnam’s digital infrastructure and ready to compete on the global stage.

The trio of recognitions from Esri, BSI, and Autodesk confirms Portcoast’s comprehensive capabilities across the three pillars of digital construction: geospatial context (GIS), asset modeling (BIM), and information management processes. It can be said that Portcoast’s technologies are advancing in parallel with the world.
